The Amsterdam Declarations Partnership (ADP) has sent a letter to the Vice President Hamilton Mourao of Brazil to tackle the massive problem of deforestation in the Amazon. The ADP is made up of eight European countries: France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Italy, the UK, and the Netherlands - the letter was also signed by Belgium, however, is not involved in the partnership. This partnership was launched after discovering that 24% of climate change was due to changes in land use, it is Europe's aim to become widely sustainable and free from deforestation. Therefore, the letter that was sent, was written firmly on the basis of real action and commitment from the Brazilian Government to protect the Amazon and its Indigenous communities. Concerns from European consumers, businesses, and investors have grown over the last decade. Although the Amazon fires are not within Europe, Europeans have had significant contributions to the fuel of these flames, i.e. production and consumption patterns.
