How is the consumption of beef linked to fires in the Amazon rainforest?

Responsible Consumption and Production

The consumption of meat globally has been increasing for decades and its implications are getting worse as we ignore the need for changing our patterns. In the Brazilian Amazon rainforest, there have been over 42,000 wildfires have been blamed by the exporting of meat. The high supply and demands of meat have affected the global environment as well as farmers, e.g. in Brazil as more land is destroyed. In 2018, there were 80% more fires in the Amazon rainforest, Brazil is the largest producer and exporter of beef, and nearly 50% of their livestock is raised in the rainforest before the fields were burned.President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil refused $20 million in G7 aid to help recover the rainforest and fight the fires. What should be done by the Government instead? Also, what can we do as consumers? As we come to understand that our consumption choices have implications on the environment around us, it is easy to ignore when the fires don't occur in your backyard. We need to change our production and consumption patterns, it is our responsibility to take care of our ecosystems. A reduction of production and exporting of beef would make a huge difference, should countries limit their imports of beef? What do you think should be done?
