Retailers in the UK will charge 10p per plastic bag in 2021

Responsible Consumption and Production

The first development of the carrier bag charge happened in 2015 and has since prevented billions of plastic bags from being sold and polluting oceans. The Government, through its success, has announced a step forward in achieving the elimination of plastic waste through avoidable plastics such as carrier bags. It has been confirmed that from April of 2021, retailers in the UK will charge 10p for single-use carrier bags, the aim is to see a significantly large cut in the usage of single-use plastic bags and encourage customers to bring long-life bags which are more sustainable and made from eco-friendly materials.Did you know that since 2015, when the 5p carrier charge was introduced, there has been a 60% drop in plastic bags ending up on UK beaches? This is the encouragement that has developed advances in charges to reduce avoidable single-use plastic usage. The shift from a throw-away society to a culture of reuse is so important.
