Hotels in California will not provide plastic items from 2023

Responsible Consumption and Production

Gov Gavin Newsom of Sacramtento, California, has announced a proposal of banning plastic shampoo bottles, set to start in 2023.  This law was made to limit the use of plastic in the state, where hotels are often offering plastic products which contradicts the fight against plastic waste. The law will take effect in hotels with more than 50 rooms, then in 2024 for hotels with less than the figure. Fines for offenses against the law have also been scribed as $500 for a first and $2000 for subsequent violations.Big hotel chains are already drawing plans to stop using small plastic bottles in their hotel rooms, this by December 2020 - following this are Holiday Inn which said it would eliminate around 200 million plastic bottles by 2021. The Marriott have said they expect to save around 250 pounds of plastic a year, which is the equivalent of 23,000 plastic bottles!
