The fast-food business has committed to removing over 3,000 metric tons of plastic from Happy Meal toys, by 2021. The alternative to plastic for these surprise gifts will instead be made from sustainable paper-based material, books, and soft toys. This plan is to take place in McDonald's in the UK and Ireland region. The idea raised after a petition was organised by two schoolgirls who achieved to collect 400,00 signatures to cut plastic from its Happy Meals.
