Over the past decade, an increasing number of Latin Americans became the first generation in their families to enrol on a higher education programme. The Coronavirus pandemic has hindered the expansion of students this year. The economic repercussions of the isolation and the health crisis have impeded access to many disadvantaged students to higher education institutions. According to the Inter-American Development Bank, millions of students will leave their studies. In Colombia, the number of enrolled students is expected to decrease in 25%.
