Hand hygiene is vital to minimise the risk of COVID

Clean Water and Sanitation

There is no doubt that handwashing has become a crucial preventative method in the fight against COVID-19. Yet currently, 3 out of 5 people around the world have access to handwashing facilities. Moreover, 40% of the world's population cannot wash their hands with soap at home, due to a lack of handwashing facilities.Hand hygiene is not only essential to minimise and reduce the spread of COVID, but it plays a critical role in protecting us from infectious diseases. SDG 6 aims to achieve universal access to clean water and sanitation by 2030 amongst other targets outlined in the goal itself. However, to achieve this target, we must work together to make handwashing a global norm. Moreover, improving access to handwashing facilities, both at home and in schools, will help promote the practice itself, reducing the threats to general health and well-being.
