In 2017, 76.9% of families had adequate access to water, sanitation and hand hygiene facilities (WASH). By 2019, this figure had increased steadily, with 93.7% of families having access to WASH facilities. In addition, the number of people with limited access to these facilities fell from 8.4% to 4.2%. Overall, there have been improvements across every area, including improved access to safe drinking water, which 96% of families can access, as well as visible progress in sanitation facilities. It is these improvements that will enable the Philippines to be one step closer to providing safe access to water and sanitation to all of the population. This positive change will also ensure we are on track to meet the 2030 SDG 6 (Sustainable Development Goal).
