Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, is a great example of determination after 27 years of struggle, workers were able to change the government's way of viewing the private-sector collection and waste management. Their pay was improved as well as their recognition, respect, and, acknowledgment of their contribution to the environment along with the public health of the capital city.
This brings to light the fact that the improvement of waste collection is quite simple, it doesn't require complicated infrastructure and instead perhaps a sorting area; it's effective in improving working conditions and potentially increases recycling rates.
