Toilet paper has become one of the hottest commodities as a result of the Coronavirus-led lockdowns. The US leads in the highest demand and sales of toilet paper that companies struggled to keep up with at the beginning of states going into lockdown. The manufacturing of sheets has a detrimental impact on the environment, forests around the world are being destroyed to fulfill America's need and desire for options of toilet paper. Two regions of forests in particular that have been affected by these demands are Sweden's Great Northern Forest and Canada's boreal forests. How could tissue be responsibly produced? The global population does not all depend on tissue as much as America. The majority of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East have more sustainable alternatives - one being the bidet, the use of water reduces the numbers of trees being chopped. Companies contribute to deforestation to increase the softness of their rolls. There definitely are some recyclable and ethical tissue companies, but there aren't enough of us buying it!
