Targets for Goal 12

This target is important for human health as well as the environment. Management of chemicals, its waste as well as its disposal is an extremely important part of minimising releases into the air, it is a job mainly for the government to prioritise.An example of this target not being met is the explosion in Beirut that occurred in August of this year. The mismanagement of the containment of chemicals meant destructive consequences.The indicator 12.4.1 looks at the number of parties to international multilateral environmental agreements on hazardous waste, and other chemicals that meet their commitments and obligations. Indicator 12.4.2 monitors the hazardous waste generated per capita and the proportion of hazardous waste treated, by type of treatment. - (5/12)
