The new partnership will focus on the islands of Fiji and Kiribati to prevent the spread of COVID-19 through improving water and hygiene facilities in local communities.
The partnership funding will be used to provide hand sanitizers, soap and water tanks in health facilities and schools. Handwashing is crucial in reducing the risk of contracting the virus as well as other diseases, hence why an improvement in water and hygiene facilities will minimize the risk of spread.
The Pacific island countries have some of the lowest levels of sanitation and water access globally. This partnership will focus on the most vulnerable communities, enabling them to become more resilient and improving their livelihoods.
