Sesame Workshop expands the WASH UP! program

Clean Water and Sanitation

Sesame Workshop is the non-profit organisation behind the well-known TV series Sesame Street. On the 15th of October, we celebrated World Handwashing Day, and to commemorate this day, Sesame Workshop will be expanding their WASH UP! program, designed to empower children through lessons on proper hygiene and water use.The program will be available to a total of 11 countries across Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia. Children in Malawi, Niger, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Zambia will receive lessons on how to carry out proper handwashing and using the toilets. Moreover, the program has been adapted to support the socio-emotional needs of children in Jordan, Syria and the Kurdish Region of Iraq. This adaptation will not only provide children with improved knowledge on water and sanitation but will aid them in building resilience and hope, whilst encouraging mutual respect and understanding. The WASH UP! initiative will help raise awareness and educate children, effectively reducing the risk of contracting preventable diseases such as diarrhoea, which is a leading cause of death for children under the age of five.
