Although progress has been made in improving access to water in the Solomon Islands, not every community has access to a safe water supply. Additionally, the main water supply is a 10km walk downhill and is often contaminated, exposing the community to waterborne diseases. Although the RWASH (Rural Water and Sanitation Hygiene) programme has improved access to water for two rural communities in the Solomon Islands, there is still work to be done, especially to ensure there is universal access to water and sanitation by 2030.
