Andres Valencia, a 10-year-old artist, became an overnight sensation last year at Art Miami. At the event, he sold paintings to actors Sofia Vergara, Channing Tatum, Brooke Shields, and the entrepreneur Jordan Belfort.
For the first time ever, Valencia’s work will hit the auction block on 21 June at Phillips Hong Kong’s 20th-century and contemporary art and design day sale.
The painting going up is Ms Cube (2020), Valencia’s most notable work. Phillips has estimated it at $25,600 to $51,300 - a portion of the proceeds are going to Box of Hope, a charity assisting underprivileged children in Asia.
A couple of days after the auction on 23 June, Valencia will open a solo show, titled “No Rules” at his gallery, Chase Contemporary in New York. It will feature 35 works he produced between 2020 and 2022.
One of the paintings debuting at Chase Contemporary was created in support of Ukraine. It is to be made into a print edition of 500 - priced at $1,000 each, all earnings will go directly to a charity working with people in Ukraine.
Valencia is a San Diego, California-based artist, who has cited George Condo, Picasso, and the Cubist movement as his influences. He started painting at the age of 5.
