World's largest solar telescope releases its first pic of 10,000-mile wide sunspot

Technology

The world's largest solar telescope captured its first image of a 10,000-mile wide sunspot on January 28. The image shows the dark center of the sunspot, with a temperature of over 7,500 degrees Fahrenheit despite being cooler than the surrounding area. The sunspot is formed by a convergence of intense magnetic fields and hot gas boiling up from below.
