Why Bangladesh should begin to open schools

Arya Quality Education

Educational institutions in Bangladesh have been closed since mid-March to contain the pandemic. Globally however countries have started to open up their schools. Studies have also suggested that children and teenagers are less likely than adults to develop severe COVID-19 symptoms and die from the disease, the same applies to Bangladesh. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) people under 20 accounts for less than 2% of COVID-19 deaths. Children are at extremely low risk, on;y 0.45% of the deaths occurred for people under 10, the death rate is 0.80% for children aged 11-20. And so Bangladesh, a country which schools have been closed since March should begin to consider reopening given low risk of harm to the youth. The article outlines a rough translation of what Brac Executive Director Asif Saleh posted on Facebook recently.
