The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Federation of Teachers (AFT), National Education Association (NEA) and the School Superintendents Association (AASA) recently came together in support of a return to safe in-person learning. The organisations stated kids get much more than academics at school, they also learn social and emotional skills, get healthy meals and exercise, and also mental health support services. Further, as long as schools remain closed to in-person education, vulnerable children will have access to fewer and less rich interactions with teachers and adults. Children who are subject to abuse at home are also more vulnerable, without being in school, or exposed to outside communities, children can't get outside support. Without in-person education, children can also become more vulnerable to online predators. Â
