Tablet crowdfunding for rural students in Morocco

Zuzanna Quality Education

Morocco’s Ministry of Education and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) announced the launch of a crowdfunding program to assist students facing challenges with COVID-19 distance learning. The campaign seeks to finance the purchase of electronic mobile devices, specifically tablets, for children in disadvantaged and rural areas across Morocco. The country closed schools in March 2020, introducing online classes launched on learning websites and television channels. The strategy was challenging especially for students who live in remote areas and lack resources to buy the necessary equipment, including computers, phones, and tablets, as well as internet access. As the pandemic continues to grow, the UNDP and the Ministry seek to use the collected funds to buy electronic devices with internet access for disadvantaged students, to reduce the learning gap.
