Are boys losing out on education as a result of COVID-19?

Arya Quality Education

A recent study has indicated that more girls than boys enjoy reading in lockdown. This is prompting fears that boys could be losing out on education amidst the pandemic.

With greater access to audiobooks at home and school, the National Literacy Trust (NLT) is funding that these are more popular with boys. There have also been calls to increase access to audiobooks in schools if they are the preferred method of learning.

60.2% of girls say they enjoy reading during the lockdown, compared to 48.9% before. While 48.75 of boys say they enjoy reading amid the lockdown compared with 46.6% pre lockdown. And so the researchers concluded more girls than boys read during their free time before and during the lockdown. This is from a total of 58,345 children aged 8 to 18 that were surveyed.

Is this a worrying trend? What do you think?
