The new campus of the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV), which has cost almost US$60 million and should open in 2021, is expected to attract more national and international students and researchers to this island country, about 500km west of Senegal, in the Atlantic Ocean. Its goal is to help this small Lusophone archipelago nation to face up to tough economic challenges – as is evident from the annual national income per head of US$3,630 in 2019, according to the World Bank. The construction of the new campus has been funded by the Chinese government and built in the capital city of Praia on Santiago Island by China’s LongXin Construction Group.
