Today, 773 million people around the world lack basic literacy skills, with 617 million children and adolescents not meeting minimum reading and math standards. In continents all around the world, in particular Africa, literacy rates and educational standards are a barrier to development. Here are 5 things you can do to help.First, follow inspirational figures advocating for literacy, such as Malala Yousafzai, Pakistani activist fighting for better education, to keep you informed. Second, advocate for marginalised groups to receive equal access to literacy programs such as girls. Third, donate to organizations prioritizing education, for example, Save the Children, Help2Read or READ Global. Fourth, try to do some community work, go through old books in your house and maybe donate. And finally, raise awareness about the importance of global literacy.Â
