40 million children miss out on early education

Arya Quality Education

At least 40 million children worldwide have missed out on early childhood education as a result of the pandemic. This is preventing children from getting the best possible start they need in life. School closures have also exposed a deeper crisis for families of young children, as many are already unable to access social protection services.

Many young children remaining at home do not get to play or have the early learning support they need for healthy development. Lack of childcare and early education options leaves many parents, particularly mothers in the informal sector with no choice but to bring children to work. Nearly 7 in 10 in Asia and the Pacific work in the informal sector and don't have much access to social protection.
