113% increase in fees for humanities students

Arya Quality Education

Future university students studying disciplines such as law and humanities will have to pay up to 113% more than current students, following Centre Alliance support for the Coalition’s university funding changes. On Tuesday, the party’s education spokeswoman, Rebekha Sharkie, confirmed senator Stirling Griff would help the government pass the bill in return for more places for South Australian universities and protections for failing students. The increase in fees for humanities and law is to allow a cut in other courses such as sciences, and an overall cut in government contribution from 58% to 52%.Sharkie has explained that course fee changes were designed to address a “glut of law students leaving university” while Australia is importing engineering graduates. In doing so, the government is trying to shift the balance, and focus on people in areas which have a huge demand for skills.
