The report for Integrated agriculture water management and health highlights the need for sustainable resource management to improve water productivity and reduce the increasing water pressures generated from rising demand.
Agriculture is a major source of water contamination, both from crops and livestock, that can lead to human infection, as 1400 infectious diseases today are shared between humans and animals. Water and sanitation must become a priority in the development of policies, as well as monitoring and assessing water resources to prevent the spread of disease. Moreover, implementing wastewater management and enhancing water efficiency are vital steps to improving water quality.
