The first week of September saw all seven districts in Malaysia, suffer from water cuts, for four days. However, the water supplies in all districts have now been fully restored, a relief for all residents.  The closure of some water treatment plants was the cause for the water disruptions experienced by 1.2 million people on the 3rd of September. Following the discovery of pollution in the plants' raw water, a decision was made to temporarily shut down the treatment plants. The source of pollution was traced back to a nearby factory, which has since been closed down, to prevent future risks of waste dumping, which could trigger another closure. One of the targets for SDG 6, is focused on reducing pollution, and treating wastewater. We must ensure that there is constant monitoring both at a local and national level, of water supplies, to minimise the risk of waste dumping.
