Every rainbow needs water: Water contamination threatens Canada’s indigenous communities

“Tainted water” has been a cause for major concern since November. Drinking water across the country is lead-contaminated, making it unsafe to drink. This discovery has triggered a demand for $400 million to be invested in fixing the water crisis. However, this is not the same picture for the indigenous communities at Grassy Narrows. Mercury poisoning has been an ongoing issue known since the 1990s that poses serious health risks to vulnerable indigenous communities. However, no action has been taken, to provide the people of Grassy Narrows with safe access to clean water in comparison to the response taken after November’s discovery. Access to clean water is a universal human right, let’s make a change!
