South Africa is water-scarce, being the 30th driest country on earth due to its drought-prone location. Water shortages have affected South Africa for five years, which has led to dam levels dropping between 10% and 60% since 2018. With drought no longer classified as a national disaster, there is a sense of fear for the future of the agricultural sector.
New measures to combat water scarcity will be implemented to avoid the dreaded 'Day Zero', where water sources would be shut down.
