Renewable Energy company Iberdrola has activated Europe’s largest solar power plant ever. The colossal project will supply up to 590MW, which can support over 335,000 homes!
The project cost a whopping 330 million euros, but it will reduce carbon emissions of roughly 150,000 tonnes per year. Located in Spain’s south-western Extremadure region, the project is the first of its size to become activated, and paves the way for other sunny countries to follow suit.
This isn’t the last we will hear of the energy giants, Iberdrola have set aside a total of over 14 billion euros to further supplement the creation of wind and solar farms, as well as smart-grid-systems o that the energy usage is optimised.
Another great factor is that the solar farm was created with the intention to not harm local wildlife, and furthermore it has created a grazing ground for sheep!
The farm will contribute to Europe’s most solar-rich energy capable year ever, with 39GW of energy being supplied to national grids through projects like this.
Well done Iberdrola and well done Spain!
